What Science Is

Science used to be part of Natural Philosophy. Here is Newton's Principia:

Is science is actually hard fact? Most people assume science is always valid.

Ex 1 : Atoms, hypothesized in ancient Greece
Ex 2 : Quarks, which were hypothesized in 1963

If both did exist, it would explain the world better by explaining other phenomenon, like electricity

The received view of science shows that it moves from observation of a fact to confirmation of theories that explain those facts. But others are concerned with whether a theory is scientific, rather than true.

After all, science and math are the products of unrecognized value assumptions; there are some things we have to assume in order to progress in science.

Therefore, science is only as valid as what tools you begun using to discover more about science (e.g. logic), or in other words, science, mathematics, and logic are only as absolutely certain as the premises are.

How does science have any philosophical significance? Most of science has nothing to do with philosophy on a superficial level, but there are some emerging theoretical and abstract fields that readily permit philosophical discussion. Notably:

Second Law of Thermodynamics - Law of Entropy

Intelligent Design - This is not a scientific theory, but will be contested for years to come
